Frequently Asked Questions
Why do you review registrations?
We review all registrations to maintain this as a trusted peer space where governmental public health professionals can speak candidly about challenges without concerns about vendor pitches.
I work for a nonprofit. Can I attend?
If your nonprofit directly supports governmental public health agencies (like State Institutes, NACCHO, ASTHO) and you work in a non-consulting capacity, you are welcome. Consultants are not permitted.
Do I need AI experience to participate?
Not at all. Whether you are just exploring or already implementing tools, we welcome all experience levels.
Is there a cost to participate?
No. The AI Community of Practice is offered at no cost as part of F&T Labs' commitment to the field.
What if I can't attend every month?
That is completely fine. Attend the sessions that fit your schedule. There is no requirement to participate every month.
How is this different from AI training?
This is peer learning, not formal training. While F&T Labs offers structured AI training courses for health departments, the Community of Practice is about conversation, shared experiences, and learning from each other. Think of it as a professional learning community rather than a classroom.
Can I use professional development time to attend?
Many participants do count this toward their professional development hours. The sessions focus on emerging technology in public health practice, which aligns with most PD requirements. Check with your supervisor, but we are happy to provide documentation of attendance if needed.
What topics do you cover?
We cover a different topic each month based on what is relevant to local health departments. Past topics have included AI policy development, practical use cases, data privacy considerations, and hands-on tool demonstrations. The current month's topic is always listed on the registration form.
Are sessions recorded?
No. To maintain a safe space for candid peer discussion, we do not record sessions. This allows participants to speak openly about challenges without concern.
How long are the sessions?
Sessions run for one hour and wrap up at :55 to give you time to transition to your next meeting. We respect your time.
